John was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. As a youngster, he spent much of his time, in the outdoors exploring "small pockets of wonders" that nature provided. Summers found him in the "Kawarthas" roaming the backwoods in search of chipmunks, rabbit and deer. He became an avid hunter, and had many opportunites to get close to wildlife and the environment. He was touched by "Mother Nature" and her rhythms.
Over time, John replaced the rifle with a paint brush and now captures that mystery in his art work. His very personal and unique interpretations, on hand painted feather, canvas, canoe paddle, or in miniature, come from a deep and abiding commitment to awaken in others , an awareness and appreciation of our links and interconnectedness with nature.
As an educator and art teacher, he passed on, not only his artistic skills, but also his love of our planet's wonders.
Ostensibly a self-taught artist, John's primary medium is acrylics. The detail and depth of understanding depicted within each work of art, promotes respect for nature and her gifts. No matter what the subject, John breathes life and a spirit into it. Much as our aboriginials, understand the timelessness of the land and natural history, John sees in his art that same essence.
His works, which can be found in corporate and private collections, characterize the respect that Native Americans have for "Mother Earth" and their belief that we are merely transients on our planet and "Earth Keepers" for our grand children and future generations.
From his home, Nature's Spirit Studio, in the Kawarthas, John continues to pursue his passion for painting and his love of the outdoors.
